Pioneering healthcare education since 1891, shaping Maine's health professionals.
The Maine College of Health Professions (MCHP) stands as a cornerstone of healthcare education in New England, boasting a rich legacy that spans over a century. Dedicated exclusively to preparing the next generation of health professionals, MCHP offers a focused and rigorous academic environment designed to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare sector. Prospective students seeking a career in vital health fields will find a supportive community committed to excellence and practical, hands-on learning.
Established in 1891 as The Central Maine General Hospital Training School, MCHP has a long and storied history of adapting and growing to serve its community. What began as a diploma-granting institution for nursing evolved significantly. In 1977, it began offering a two-year nursing degree under the new name, Central Maine Medical Center School of Nursing, and notably earned accreditation from the prestigious New England Association of Schools and Colleges. This pivotal moment cemented its status as a recognized degree-granting college.
Continuing its evolution, the institution was renamed the Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions in 2007, before finally adopting its current identity as the Maine College of Health Professions in 2014. As a private not-for-profit institution led by President Dr. Monika Bissell, MCHP is deeply invested in the success of its students and the health of the communities they will serve. This deep-rooted history and unwavering commitment ensure a high-quality educational experience, making MCHP an excellent choice for those passionate about a career in health professions.
