Manhattan Area Technical College

Manhattan Area Technical College (MATC) stands as a beacon of technical education, dedicated to empowering students with the practical skills and knowledge needed for successful careers. Founded in 1965, MATC has cultivated a focused learning environment where hands-on training and real-world application are paramount, preparing its nearly 1,000 students for immediate entry into their chosen professions.

The institution's journey began as the Manhattan Area Vocational Technical School, established under the Kansas Board of Education. Over the decades, it has evolved significantly, reflecting its growth and commitment to higher education. After moving to its current campus in 1967, the school underwent crucial transformations, including being renamed Manhattan Area Technical Center in 1992 and ultimately Manhattan Area Technical College in 1996, following state legislation that recognized the depth of its educational offerings.

Today, MATC operates as an independent public institution, a status achieved in 2004 when it separated from USD 383. This independence underscores its maturity and capacity for self-governance, further solidified by its accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission in 2007.
