Maryland University of Integrative Health

Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) stands as a beacon for education in holistic and traditional medicine, charting a unique course in higher education. What began in 1974 as the College of Chinese Acupuncture, U.S., founded by Dianne Connelly and Robert Duggan, steadily grew to encompass a broader vision of wellness. Its early days were dedicated to training skilled acupuncturists, before evolving to embrace a wider array of ancient healing practices.

By 2000, under its new name, the Tai Sophia Institute, the institution expanded its curriculum significantly, introducing programs in areas like yoga, acupressure, and herbalism. This pivotal expansion reflected a growing understanding of the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, positioning the institute at the forefront of integrative health education. The commitment to academic rigor and comprehensive well-being culminated in 2013 when it received state approval to offer graduate degrees and proudly became the Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH).

MUIH's journey recently entered a new chapter, culminating in a merger with Notre Dame of Maryland University in 2025. This significant development absorbed MUIH into the new School of Integrated Health at NDMU, promising an even broader platform for its distinctive programs and a wider reach for its integrative health philosophy.
