About Massachusetts Bay Community College

Massachusetts Bay: Your launchpad for career success and academic achievement.

Massachusetts Bay Community College, often affectionately known as MassBay, stands as a vibrant public institution dedicated to empowering its 4,400 students. True to its inspiring motto, "Start here. Go anywhere.", MassBay provides a dynamic and accessible pathway to higher education and professional development. It's recognized for fostering a supportive learning environment that prepares students for seamless transfer to four-year institutions or direct entry into high-demand careers.

A pioneer in the Commonwealth, MassBay was chartered in February 1961 as one of Massachusetts' first community colleges. Its journey began with humble origins, serving several hundred students across temporary campuses in Watertown and Boston. The college found its permanent home in 1975, relocating to Wellesley Hills on the picturesque campus of the former Elizabeth Seton High School. This foundational period cemented MassBay's commitment to accessible, quality education.

Over the decades, MassBay has continuously evolved to meet the needs of its community and the modern workforce. In 1990, it expanded its footprint by leasing a second campus in Framingham, specifically designed to house its vital health sciences and human services programs. Further demonstrating its forward-thinking approach, MassBay opened its state-of-the-art Automotive Technology Center in Ashland in 2001.

The commitment to cutting-edge education continued into 2024 with the grand opening of a new 68,000 square foot, LEED Gold Certified MassBay Center for Health Sciences, Early Childhood, and Human Services in Framingham. This significant investment underscores MassBay's dedication to providing students with modern facilities and industry-relevant training, ensuring they are well-equipped to excel in their chosen fields and truly "go anywhere."
