About Massachusetts Bay Community College
MassBay: Your local launchpad for academic and career success since 1961.
Massachusetts Bay Community College (MassBay) stands as a vibrant public community college dedicated to empowering its 4,400 students to achieve their academic and professional goals. With a compelling motto, "Start here. Go anywhere.", MassBay embodies its commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education that serves as a springboard for further university studies or immediate entry into rewarding careers. It’s a place where ambition meets opportunity, fostering a supportive environment for diverse learners.
Chartered in February 1961, MassBay holds a significant place in Massachusetts' educational landscape as one of the state's very first community colleges. Its journey began with humble origins, operating from temporary campuses in Watertown and Boston, serving just a few hundred students. This foundational period laid the groundwork for its expansion, leading to the establishment of its permanent Wellesley Hills campus in 1975, on the site of the former Elizabeth Seton High School. This historical progression highlights MassBay’s enduring dedication to growth and serving the evolving needs of its community.
Today, MassBay is distinguished by its strong academic programs, particularly in health sciences, human services, and automotive technology. In 1990, it expanded its footprint by leasing a second campus in Framingham, specifically to house its crucial health sciences and human services programs. Further demonstrating its commitment to hands-on, specialized training, the college opened its Automotive Technology Center in Ashland in 2001. A major recent achievement is the opening of a new, state-of-the-art 68,000 square foot, LEED Gold Certified MassBay Center for Health Sciences, Early Childhood, and Human Services in Framingham in January 2024, signifying a significant investment in cutting-edge facilities.
Students at MassBay benefit from a practical, career-focused education delivered across multiple campuses, each designed to provide specialized learning environments. Whether aspiring to transfer to a four-year institution or to gain immediate employment, MassBay's diverse program offerings, historical significance, and continuous commitment to modern facilities ensure a robust and engaging student experience. It's a community where students are not just learning, but are actively preparing to make their mark on the world.
