McDowell Technical Community College

McDowell Technical Community College stands as a vital public institution dedicated to empowering its community through practical, career-focused education. Led by President Brian S. The college's journey began in 1964 as a satellite of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Institute, laying the groundwork for what would become an independent educational pillar. Officially founded in 1967, McDowell Tech steadily grew, achieving its own independent charter in 1971. This milestone marked a new era of self-determination, allowing MTCC to tailor its programs and services even more closely to the unique needs of its students and the surrounding McDowell County.

Today, McDowell Tech continues to evolve, ensuring its facilities and curriculum remain cutting-edge. Recent campus expansions in 2015 introduced new buildings and a scenic walking trail, enhancing the overall student experience.
