About Meridian Community College

Meridian Community College: A local vision empowering diverse futures since 1937.

Meridian Community College stands as a cornerstone of accessible higher education, known for its deep roots in the community and unwavering commitment to offering a broad spectrum of opportunities to its students.

Its unique story began in 1937, not as a standalone institution but as an innovative extension of Meridian High School. This distinctive origin, spearheaded by the visionary Dr. H.M. Ivy, makes MCC the only one of Mississippi's 15 public community colleges to emerge directly from a local school system's initiative. Over the decades, MCC has evolved significantly, marked by its move to a dedicated campus in 1964 and, notably, a historic merger in 1970 with T.J. Harris Junior College. This pivotal moment enriched the campus, welcoming over 400 students and fostering a more inclusive and diverse learning environment.

By 1980, the college solidified its independence, establishing its own district and board of trustees, marking its final break with Meridian Public Schools. Later, in 1987, it adopted its current name, Meridian Community College, to better reflect its expansive educational mission and the diverse opportunities it provides for the growing community it serves.

Today, with a vibrant student body of 3,435, MCC is dedicated to preparing students for successful careers, seamless transfer to four-year institutions, and lifelong learning. Under the leadership of President Tom Huebner, it prides itself on nurturing a supportive community where students can discover their passions and achieve their academic and professional goals, truly embodying its commitment to empowering the future.
