Metropolitan Community College-Kansas City

Metropolitan Community College-Kansas City (MCC-KC) stands as a foundational institution in Missouri's educational landscape, celebrated as the oldest public college in Kansas City and the very first community college established in the state. From its inception in 1915 as Kansas City Polytechnic Institute, MCC-KC has been a trailblazer, distinguishing itself as one of the first institutions nationwide to offer two-year associate degrees. This pioneering spirit was further recognized when it achieved accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 1918, making it only the third school in the country to do so.

Over its long history, MCC-KC has consistently adapted to meet the evolving needs of its community. Initially, it provided a comprehensive range of programs, including a junior college curriculum, teacher training, mechanic arts, trades, and business. Today, MCC-KC continues this legacy with robust academic offerings and particularly strong skilled trades programs, housed in modern facilities like the Engineering Technology building and the Advanced Technical Skills Institute at Penn Valley, and the Blue River East building.

Serving a sprawling district encompassing 15 K-12 school systems, MCC-KC provides accessible education across the metropolitan area through its multiple campuses: Longview, Maple Woods, Penn Valley, and Blue River.
