Mid-Atlantic Christian University

Mid-Atlantic Christian University (MACU) stands as a beacon of faith-based higher education, dedicated to equipping students for lives of Christian service and leadership. Founded in 1948 as Roanoke Bible College by George and Sarah BonDurant, its initial purpose was clear and urgent: to address the pressing need for preachers in eastern North Carolina and the Virginia Tidewater region. This enduring mission, encapsulated in its motto "Set for the Defense of the Gospel," continues to shape its academic programs and vibrant community.

From its humble beginnings with just 12 full-time students, MACU has grown into a respected institution within the Christian academic landscape. It has consistently delivered on its promise, graduating a class every year since 1952. The university achieved significant milestones in accreditation, first recognized by the Association for Biblical Higher Education in 1979, and later by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1999, affirming its commitment to academic excellence and institutional integrity. In 2005, MACU further strengthened its resources by absorbing the holdings of Eastern Christian College.

Today, Mid-Atlantic Christian University fosters a close-knit learning environment, evidenced by its intimate student body. The university officially adopted its current name in 2009, reflecting its broader regional impact and comprehensive offerings while staying true to its founding principles. Under the leadership of President John W.
