About Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary: Rapidly growing, biblically faithful, and passionately 'For The Church'.
Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary stands as a vibrant and rapidly growing institution, dedicated to its impactful motto, "For the Church." Since its founding, MBTS has committed itself to biblically educating God-called men and women, equipping them to be and make disciples of Jesus Christ. Under dynamic leadership, it has become one of North America's fastest-growing seminaries, attracting thousands of students passionate about ministry.
Established in 1957 by the Southern Baptist Convention and opening its doors in 1958 in northern Kansas City, Missouri, MBTS began with a modest six faculty members and 136 students. Its early foundation was bolstered by the generous donation of property from the Vivion family, whose historic farmhouse now serves as the presidential residence. Doctrinally, the seminary firmly adheres to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, a commitment upheld by every faculty and administration member.
A significant turning point arrived with the installation of Jason K. Allen as president in 2012. He spearheaded a revitalization centered around the "For The Church" vision, deeply re-connecting theological education with the crucial support of local churches. This vision has manifested through various initiatives, including an extensive website and an annual national conference featuring internationally renowned speakers. This renewed focus ignited phenomenal growth, nearly tripling enrollment from 1,107 students in 2010-2011 to over 3,000 by 2017-2018, solidifying its position among the world's largest seminaries.
