Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary stands as a vibrant and rapidly expanding institution dedicated to its profound motto: "For the Church." Since its founding, MBTS has committed itself to biblically educating God-called men and women to be and to make disciples of Jesus Christ, making it a pivotal center for theological formation in North America.

The seminary's journey began on May 29, 1957, when the Southern Baptist Convention established the institution and elected its board of trustees. Opening its doors in 1958 in northern Kansas City, Missouri, with a modest six faculty members and 136 students, the seminary was built on land generously donated by the Vivion family. Doctrinally, MBTS is steadfastly guided by the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, requiring faculty and administration to affirm its precepts, ensuring a consistent and robust theological foundation for its community.

A new era of revitalization began in 2012 with the installation of President Jason K. Allen. Under his leadership, Midwestern Seminary has experienced phenomenal growth, almost tripling its enrollment from 1,107 students in 2010–2011 to surpassing 3,000 by 2017–2018, and now serving 3,840 students. This surge has cemented its reputation as one of the fastest-growing and largest seminaries globally. The "For The Church" vision championed by President Allen has reshaped its institutional and academic focus, seeking to intimately connect theological education with the strengthening and support of local churches.

This commitment to the local church is evident in various initiatives, including its dedicated website and the annual "For The Church" national conference, which attracts internationally renowned speakers.
