Millsaps College, established in 1890, stands as a distinguished private liberal arts institution committed to "Ad Excellentiam" – to excellence. From its very inception, with William Belton Murrah as its first president and Bishop Charles Betts Galloway leading early fundraising, Millsaps has been intertwined with a legacy of dedication and community support, maintaining its affiliation with the United Methodist Church to this day. A significant chapter in its past includes its vital role in the Navy V-12 College Training Program during World War II, where it trained 873 Navy and Marine officer candidates between 1943 and 1945, showcasing its enduring commitment to national service and academic rigor.
