Mineral Area College

Mineral Area College (MAC) stands as a testament to enduring community commitment and educational innovation. With roots tracing back to 1922, MAC has continuously evolved to meet the needs of its region, providing accessible and high-quality education that empowers students to achieve their academic and career aspirations. Originally established as Flat River Junior College by the Flat River Board of Education, the institution initially focused on training teachers and offering foundational two-year college education. A pivotal moment arrived in 1965 when, through widespread community support and a popular vote by residents across six public school districts, it transformed into Mineral Area College. This transition marked a significant expansion, quickly leading to the formation of a dedicated career and technical education division in 1966 and the introduction of vital nursing programs in 1967, solidifying MAC's role as a comprehensive community resource.

The college's growth continued robustly through the decades, reflected in the acquisition of its current main campus outside Leadington, MO in 1967 and the move to this larger facility in 1970. MAC has consistently expanded its programs and infrastructure, including the addition of College Park in 2000 and the Fredericktown Outreach Center in 2010, further extending its reach. Today, with over 11,000 alumni representing diverse states and countries, MAC proudly continues its legacy of empowering students and contributing significantly to the social and economic vitality of the communities it serves.
