Mineral Area College

Mineral Area College (MAC) stands as a testament to community vision and educational evolution, proudly serving as a vital hub for learning and career development in its region. What began as Flat River Junior College in 1922, originally focused on teacher training and foundational two-year education for high school graduates, has blossomed into a comprehensive institution dedicated to meeting the changing needs of its students and the workforce.

The college's significant transformation in 1965 highlights its deep roots in the community. Through a popular vote by residents across six public school districts, Flat River Junior College transitioned into Mineral Area College, signaling a collective commitment to expanded educational opportunities. This pivotal moment led to rapid growth, including the formation of a dedicated career and technical education division in 1966 and the introduction of vital nursing programs in 1967, laying the groundwork for MAC's strong reputation in practical, in-demand fields.

The growth continued with the acquisition of its current main campus outside Leadington, MO, in 1967, and the full move of operations by 1970. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, MAC consistently added new buildings and programs, ensuring it remained responsive to the community's needs. Further extending its reach, College Park was established in 2000, followed by the Fredericktown Outreach Center in 2010. Today, with over 11,000 alumni spanning various states and countries, MAC continues its legacy of empowering students to achieve their academic and professional dreams, making a lasting impact far beyond its campus borders.
