MAC's rich history began in 1922 as Flat River Junior College, established by the Flat River Board of Education to provide essential teacher training and two-year college education for local high school graduates. The college's transformation in 1965 marked a pivotal moment; a popular vote by residents across six public school districts led to its reestablishment as Mineral Area College, signaling widespread community investment in its future. This transition spurred rapid expansion, including the formation of a dedicated career and technical education division in 1966 and the vital addition of nursing programs in 1967, laying the groundwork for its modern offerings.
