Minerva University stands at the forefront of educational innovation, known for its motto, "Sapientia Critica" (Critical Wisdom), and its revolutionary approach to higher education designed to cultivate critical thinking. Launched in 2012 with significant venture funding of US$25 million from Benchmark Capital, Minerva set out to redefine the undergraduate experience. Its distinct model emphasizes a rigorous, seminar-based curriculum, fostering deep intellectual engagement and preparing students for the complexities of a rapidly changing world.

The university's origins are rooted in a bold vision to challenge traditional academic structures. Stephen Kosslyn, a distinguished academic with previous leadership roles at Stanford and Harvard, was recruited in 2013 as the founding Dean. He was instrumental in shaping Minerva's unique seminar-based curriculum and establishing the structure of its School of Arts & Science, laying the groundwork for an institution focused on active learning and intellectual development.

Academically, Minerva offers a diverse array of programs, including Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Humanities, and Bachelor of Science degrees in Business, Computational Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. Its commitment to advanced learning extends to postgraduate studies with a Master of Science in Decision Analysis. A key aspect of Minerva's academic strength lies in its cross-disciplinary Cornerstone Courses, so impactful that the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology partnered with Minerva to allow its students access to these innovative courses.

The student experience at Minerva is characterized by its unparalleled selectivity; the inaugural class in 2014 saw only 29 students matriculate from 2,464 applications, boasting a remarkable 2.8% acceptance rate.
