Moravian University

Moravian University stands out as an institution with a profound historical legacy, tracing its roots to 1742. It proudly claims to be the sixth-oldest college in the United States and holds the distinction of being the first to educate women in the original 13 colonies. This rich heritage stems from the Bethlehem Female Seminary, a groundbreaking girls' school founded by Benigna, Countess von Zinzendorf. Simultaneously, boys' schools were established, eventually forming Nazareth Hall and later the Moravian College and Theological Seminary.

The separate institutions for men and women evolved over centuries, eventually merging in 1954 to form the coeducational Moravian College. This merger brought together the North and South campuses, creating a vibrant academic community spread across what is affectionately known as the "Moravian Mile." In 2021, the institution elevated its status, becoming Moravian University, a testament to its expanded academic offerings and continued commitment to higher education.

Moravian University offers a distinctive student experience, blending its suburban and urban 100-acre campus with a deep sense of history. New students participate in the "Moravian Mile" walk during orientation, a tradition that connects them to the university's dual campus heritage. Adding to its unique appeal, parts of Moravian's campus, including historic buildings like the Second Single Brethren's House and the Widows' House, were recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2024, offering students and faculty an opportunity to live and learn within historically significant structures.
