The college's inspiring journey began in 1853, when a determined community of Sisters of Mercy established "St. Aloysius Academy" in a modest tinner's shop in Loretto, PA. This humble beginning marked the genesis of an institution destined for significant growth. The academy relocated to its picturesque present-day campus in Cresson in 1897, setting the stage for its transformation. A pivotal moment arrived in 1939, thanks to the vision of Sister Mary de Sales Farley, R.S.M., when the academy evolved into "Mount Aloysius Junior College," broadening its educational scope.

The institution continued its upward trajectory, significantly expanding its offerings and reach. In 1991, Mount Aloysius achieved university status by amending its charter to grant bachelor's degrees, officially adopting its current revered name, "Mount Aloysius College." This commitment to advanced education further solidified in 2000, when the college's charter was again amended to include master's degree programs.
