Naropa University

Naropa University stands as a beacon for those seeking an education deeply rooted in contemplative practices and engaged spirituality. Founded in 1974 by the exiled Tibetan tulku Chögyam Trungpa, Naropa offers a truly distinctive learning environment. It is renowned for integrating traditional Buddhist wisdom with Western academia, fostering a holistic approach to personal and intellectual growth. This private university is a place where mind, body, and spirit are equally nurtured, preparing students not just for careers, but for a life of purpose and presence.

What sets Naropa apart is its commitment to "contemplative education." This philosophy permeates all aspects of the university, from its innovative academic programs to its vibrant community life. Historically significant, Naropa became a hub for creative minds from its inception, famously establishing the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics with the help of literary giants like Allen Ginsberg and Anne Waldman. This legacy of creativity and critical inquiry continues to define the student experience, encouraging exploration and challenging conventional thought.

Academically, Naropa shines in areas like contemplative psychotherapy, a unique graduate program developed from Trungpa's Maitri program, which integrates Vajrayana teachings on energetic patterns with therapeutic practice. The university also boasts cutting-edge research in electrophysiology, with its Cognitive and Affective Sciences Laboratory studying brainwave patterns. For prospective students and their families, Naropa offers a transformative journey, providing rigorous academics within a supportive community dedicated to awareness, compassion, and engaged learning, now evolving to embrace hybrid and virtual spaces while retaining its core essence.
