Navajo Technical University

Navajo Technical University (NTU) stands as a beacon of education and empowerment for the Navajo Nation, uniquely established as a public tribal land-grant university. Its founding vision, rooted in addressing the unemployment challenges faced by its community, has blossomed into a comprehensive institution dedicated to fostering practical skills and academic excellence. The university's journey began in 1979, chartered by the Navajo Nation as the Navajo Skill Center. This initial focus on vocational training quickly evolved, leading to its renaming as the Crownpoint Institute of Technology in 1985. A pivotal moment arrived in 1994 when it was designated a land-grant college, recognizing its commitment to public service and research alongside 31 other tribal colleges. This evolution continued with a renaming to Navajo Technical College in 2006, signaling a broader academic scope, culminating in its current prestigious title, Navajo Technical University, adopted in 2013.

Today, under the leadership of President Dr. Elmer Guy, Navajo Technical University serves a thriving student body of 1,777 individuals. The university's growing recognition was highlighted by Dr. Jill Biden's visit during the 2013 graduation ceremony, underscoring its vital role in the educational landscape and its significant impact on the lives of its graduates and the Navajo Nation.
