Nazareth University

Nazareth University, a distinguished private institution, carries a rich legacy rooted in a profound commitment to education. Founded in 1924 by five Sisters of St. Joseph at the request of Bishop Thomas Francis Hickey, its initial mission was to provide undergraduate education to young women, starting with a pioneering class of 25.

The university's journey began humbly in "the Glass House," a large mansion on Lake Avenue in Rochester, New York. As enrollment steadily grew, Nazareth College, as it was then known, relocated to a larger facility in 1928. This early adaptability set the stage for its continued growth and evolution, culminating in a significant milestone on June 1, 2023, when its status officially transitioned from a college to Nazareth University, reflecting its expanded academic scope and offerings.

Today, Nazareth University continues its tradition of academic excellence, grounded in a robust liberal arts core. It offers comprehensive Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, preparing its 2,401 students to thrive in a complex world.
