The university's story began in 1924, when the Sisters of St. Joseph, at the request of Bishop Thomas Francis Hickey, established Nazareth College of Rochester. Their pioneering vision was to provide essential undergraduate education to young women, starting with a determined class of 25 students in the charming "Glass House" mansion. From its inception, Nazareth offered Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, each underpinned by a robust liberal arts core, laying the groundwork for a comprehensive and well-rounded education.

As word spread and enrollment steadily grew, Nazareth College quickly adapted to its expanding needs, moving to a larger facility on Augustine Street in 1928. This early growth foreshadowed its evolution into a dynamic institution, culminating in its significant transformation on June 1, 2023, when it officially became Nazareth University. Today, with 2,401 students, Nazareth continues its tradition of academic excellence, preparing students for meaningful careers and lives of purpose in an ever-changing world.
