NECO's rich history began in 1894 as the Klein School of Optics, established by the pioneering ophthalmologist August Andreas Klein. Over the decades, it evolved, moving through various Boston locations and adapting its name, first to the Massachusetts School of Optometry and later the Massachusetts College of Optometry. This journey culminated in its present-day home in Boston's iconic Back Bay, maintaining its deep roots while continually innovating to meet modern healthcare demands.

Today, NECO proudly offers both the Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) and Master of Science in Vision Science degrees.
