North Central Texas College

North Central Texas College stands as a beacon of educational legacy, proudly claiming the title of Texas’s oldest continuously operating public community college. Since its founding in 1924, NCTC has been more than just a place of learning; it's a dynamic institution deeply woven into the fabric of its community, evolving from local roots to a regional leader.

NCTC’s journey began humbly in May 1924 as Gainesville Junior College, an extension of the local school district. For over two decades, it shared facilities and staff with Gainesville High School, embodying a close-knit educational environment. A pivotal moment arrived in the mid-1950s when, driven by visionary citizens like W.T. Bonner who donated crucial land, Cooke County voters championed the creation of an independent district. This transformation marked its emergence as Cooke County Junior College, laying the groundwork for its future autonomy and expansion.

Under the guidance of leaders like President Ronnie Glasscock, the college strategically embraced a broader regional identity. The "gentlemen's agreement" with neighboring junior colleges was solidified into state law, paving the way for NCTC to truly become a regional institution. In 1994, it officially became North Central Texas College, a name that perfectly encapsulated its growing instructional presence across Denton County. This regional commitment was further solidified in 2000 with the opening of dedicated branch campuses in Bowie, serving Montague County, and Corinth, catering to Denton County.
