Originally known as "Coeur d'Alene Junior College," classes first began at City Hall, a testament to the community's early dedication to education. A significant milestone occurred in 1939 when the institution moved to its present, picturesque campus, famously located on the historic grounds of the old Fort Sherman, which operated from 1878 to 1900. This move also brought a new identity, as it was renamed "North Idaho Junior College," solidifying its regional focus.
