NTC boasts a rich and adaptive history, originating in 1912 as the Wausau Industrial School. Over the decades, it evolved to meet the changing demands of education and industry, undergoing several significant transformations. It became the Wausau Vocational School in 1936, then the Wausau Technical Institute in 1961, and North Central Technical Institute (NCTI) in 1967, even moving into a new state-of-the-art facility in 1969. This continuous evolution culminated in its renaming to Northcentral Technical College in 1988, reflecting its comprehensive and forward-thinking approach to technical education.
