Notre Dame of Maryland University

Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) stands as a beacon of academic innovation and historical significance, renowned for its pioneering role as the first four-year Roman Catholic college for women in the United States. Founded in 1873 by the Roman Catholic School Sisters of Notre Dame, NDMU has a rich legacy of empowering students through rigorous education and a commitment to service. Today, it continues to evolve, welcoming a new era of co-education while expanding its academic footprint, particularly in the growing field of integrative health.

From its establishment as the "Notre Dame of Maryland Preparatory School and Collegiate Institute," the institution quickly grew, elevating to a four-year college for undergraduates in 1895. This commitment to higher education culminated in its landmark achievement in 1896, securing its place in history. In 2011, reflecting its expanded offerings and commitment to advanced studies, the college proudly achieved university status, adopting its current name and introducing several graduate-level programs to meet the demands of a changing world.

The university's journey of transformation continues with its recent decision in September 2022 to become co-educational, admitting its first undergraduate men in the fall of 2023. This pivotal change ushers in a new dynamic for student life and learning. Further demonstrating its forward-thinking approach, NDMU announced in October 2023 the acquisition of the Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH), with plans to integrate its programs into a new School of Integrative Health by the end of 2024. This move underscores NDMU's dedication to providing cutting-edge education in emerging disciplines, preparing students for impactful careers and a holistic understanding of well-being.
