About Ocean County College
Ocean County College: A community-rooted pathway to higher education since 1964.
Ocean County College stands as a cornerstone of accessible higher education in New Jersey, born from a vision for local opportunity. Its inception directly followed the state's landmark 1962 County College Act, which empowered counties to establish and partially fund their own colleges, bringing quality education closer to home for countless students.
The college’s journey began in earnest in January 1964, after a successful public referendum in 1963 demonstrated strong community support for its creation. This strong foundation allowed Ocean County College to open its doors and welcome its very first students in the fall of the same year, swiftly fulfilling its mission to serve the educational needs of the region.
Today, under the leadership of President Pamela Monaco, who took office in July 2023, Ocean County College continues its legacy as a vital institution. It provides a dynamic learning environment, rooted in its rich history of community engagement and dedication to fostering educational growth for its students and the broader Ocean County area.
