Ohio Northern University, a private college founded in 1871, stands as a testament to growth, resilience, and a commitment to broad education. With a student body of 3042 and an endowment of $0.2 billion, ONU is renowned for its comprehensive curriculum, which expanded from its normal school origins to include robust professional programs in pharmacy, engineering, law, and business.

The university's journey began as the "Northwestern Ohio Normal School," founded by Henry Solomon Lehr. Through strategic expansion of its curriculum, it evolved into "Ohio Normal University" in 1885 and finally "Ohio Northern University" in 1903. An affiliation with the United Methodist Church in 1899 helped the institution navigate financial challenges. Despite facing severe low enrollment during the Great Depression and World War II, ONU demonstrated remarkable resilience, seeing its student numbers rebound significantly by 1946 thanks to the G.I. Bill.

Beyond academics, Ohio Northern University holds a significant place in American history, having hosted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on January 11, 1968, just months before his assassination.
