The school's profound vision originated from the Oxford Task Force (1974–1981), a collective of professionals dedicated to redefining higher education's role in society. This foundational work culminated in Omega Graduate School being chartered in 1981 under the leadership of Hollis L. Green. From its earliest days, the institution has championed rigorous, interdisciplinary research, setting a precedent for integrating religion and societal studies into advanced academic programs.

Academically, OGS offers specialized degrees such as the Master of Letters (MLitt) and the Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil/PhD) in social research.
