About Onondaga Community College
Onondaga Community College: Building futures and a vibrant community since 1962.
Onondaga Community College, affectionately known as OCC, has been a cornerstone of education in Central New York since welcoming its first class in the fall of 1962. From its initial downtown Syracuse location in the now-demolished Midtown Plaza, OCC quickly established itself as a vital institution dedicated to student success.
The college's journey of growth and commitment to its students is evident in its evolution. In 1970, OCC relocated to its expansive and modern current campus in the Town of Onondaga, providing a dedicated environment for learning and community. This move marked a significant step in offering a more comprehensive college experience.
Further enhancing student life and community engagement, OCC expanded its facilities considerably in the 21st century. Residence halls opened their doors in 2006, transforming the college experience for many students by offering on-campus living. This commitment to a vibrant campus environment continued with the opening of a new arena in 2011, which now proudly hosts intercollegiate, scholastic, and community-based events, serving as a hub for both the college and the wider Onondaga region.
