Onondaga Community College

Onondaga Community College has been a cornerstone of education in Central New York since it first opened its doors, welcoming students in the fall of 1962. From its early days, OCC quickly established itself as a vital institution, graduating its first class just two years later in 1964. It’s known for providing an accessible, high-quality education that serves as a launchpad for diverse academic and career paths, fostering a supportive environment where students can discover their potential.

The college’s journey began in downtown Syracuse, where its inaugural classes were held in the now-demolished Midtown Plaza. However, recognizing the need for growth and dedicated facilities, Onondaga Community College embarked on a significant expansion, moving to its spacious and modern campus in the Town of Onondaga in 1970. This relocation marked a pivotal moment, laying the foundation for the vibrant campus community that thrives today.

Over the decades, OCC has continuously invested in enhancing the student experience and campus life. In 2006, the college celebrated the opening of its first residence halls, offering students the immersive experience of living on campus. This commitment to a holistic college environment was further solidified in 2011 with the unveiling of a new, state-of-the-art arena, which has become a hub for intercollegiate sports, scholastic events, and community gatherings, truly making OCC a dynamic place to learn and grow.
