Orange County Community College

Orange County Community College stands as a beacon of accessible higher education, known for its foundational role in the SUNY system and its innovative academic offerings. Established in 1950, it holds the distinction of being the first county-sponsored community college within the State University of New York network, a testament to its pioneering spirit and commitment to local educational needs.

The college's history is deeply rooted in community philanthropy. What began as a vision to fill a significant educational gap on the west side of the Hudson River culminated in the generous donation of the historic Webb Horton House and property in Middletown. This act of benevolence by Mrs. Christine Morrison paved the way for the college's founding, welcoming its inaugural class of 160 students into a new era of learning.

Academically, Orange County Community College made an immediate and lasting impact by launching the nation's very first two-year nursing degree program at a community college. This groundbreaking initiative showcased its dedication to practical, career-focused education that directly addresses critical workforce needs. Today, under the leadership of President Kristine M. Young and guided by the motto "If you have the dream, we have the way!", the college continues to foster an environment where students can achieve their aspirations.

From its humble beginnings with Morrison Hall and Horton Hall on 14 acres, the college has expanded significantly. It now boasts 12 buildings at its Middletown campus and two additional buildings at its Newburgh campus, providing a robust and evolving educational experience for a diverse student body.
