Oregon Coast Community College (OCCC) truly embodies its inspiring motto, "Oceanus Opportunitatis – An Ocean of Opportunity." Since its inception in 1987, OCCC has grown into a vital educational hub, deeply rooted in the vibrant communities along the Oregon Coast. Serving 2,036 students, it stands as a testament to accessible and impactful learning, fostering individual growth and regional prosperity.

The college's journey is a remarkable narrative of resilience and community spirit. OCCC began its life in the most unconventional of settings, with early classes held in diverse temporary locations such as church basements, fire stations, and even real estate offices. It eventually found a more permanent home in a building famously known as "Jake's High Tide Bar." This unique origin story underscores the institution's unwavering commitment to delivering education wherever it's needed, adapting and growing with the community it serves. Over the years, robust local support has fueled significant expansion, including a $23.5 million bond levy in 2004 that led to the construction of three new buildings.

A pivotal milestone arrived in 2020 when OCCC achieved independent accreditation, a proud moment that ensures graduates receive diplomas bearing the college's own name and seal, signifying recognized academic excellence. This dedication to quality and student success continues to shape its future. In May 2024, strong voter approval secured funding for a new bond measure, which will support the construction of a state-of-the-art trades education facility on the Central County Campus in Newport, alongside crucial upgrades and renovations to existing facilities. This ongoing investment promises an even more robust academic environment and enhanced opportunities for future generations of students along the Oregon Coast.
