About Orion Technical College
Orion Technical College: Hands-on technical education for high-demand careers since 1969.
Orion Technical College stands as a beacon of practical, career-focused education, dedicated to equipping students with the essential skills for rewarding professions. Founded in 1969 by Charles and Maryanne Hamilton as the Academy of Radio and Television (A.R.T.) in Bettendorf, Iowa, the institution began by preparing six students around a dinner table for FCC exams. From these humble beginnings, it has evolved into a comprehensive technical college, consistently adapting its curriculum to meet the demands of a dynamic job market.
The college's journey is one of continuous growth and innovation. After expanding its focus to include broadcasting, A.R.T. added an Electronics program in 1978, earning recognition as A.R.T. Technical College. By 1980, it had embraced the name Hamilton Technical College and continued to diversify, introducing programs like Aviation Maintenance Technology, Computer Information Systems, and Computer-Aided Drafting. A significant move to its current Davenport, Iowa location in 1991 consolidated its offerings, including the addition of a Medical Assisting Technology program, solidifying its commitment to broad-based technical training.
Today, Orion Technical College (renamed in 2020) prides itself on its state-of-the-art facilities and a curriculum designed for immediate career impact. Students benefit from an immersive, hands-on learning experience, utilizing advanced equipment such as CNC Lathes, Mills, Industrial Robotics, and Oscilloscopes in renovated centers like the Advanced Electronics Center. The college offers Associate and Bachelor of Science Degrees in Electronics Engineering Technology, alongside highly sought-after diplomas in Medical Assisting Technology and Medical Insurance Coding and Billing.
