Today, under the leadership of President Maryanne Hamilton, Orion offers comprehensive programs in electronics engineering technology, medical assisting technology, and medical insurance coding and billing, tailored to launch students directly into the workforce.

The college's rich history began in 1969 as the Academy of Radio and Television (A.R.T.) in Bettendorf, Iowa, founded by Charles and Maryanne Hamilton. Initially focused on FCC exam preparation, A.R.T. quickly expanded its curriculum and facilities. A pivotal moment came in 1978 with the addition of an Electronics program, earning it recognition as A.R.T. Technical College. The institution continued to evolve, becoming Hamilton Technical College in 1980, and further diversified its offerings with programs like Aviation Maintenance Technology, Computer Information Systems, and Computer-Aided Drafting, demonstrating a consistent commitment to adapting to industry needs.

In 1991, the college consolidated all classes at its current Davenport, Iowa location, simultaneously introducing the vital Medical Assisting Technology program. Orion Technical College prides itself on its state-of-the-art facilities, evidenced by the significant renovations in 2006 which introduced advanced equipment such as CNC Lathes, Industrial Robotics, and sophisticated computer testing gear to its Advanced Electronics Center. These resources provide an immersive, hands-on learning environment, ensuring students gain practical mastery. With accelerated programs, including associate degrees attainable in just 18 months and diplomas in 9 months, Orion is designed for ambitious individuals seeking efficient pathways to professional careers.

The year 2020 marked another significant milestone with the rebranding to Orion Technical College, a move that also saw the establishment of a sister campus, the Orion Institute, in Toledo, Ohio. This expansion, followed by a relocation within Davenport in 2021, underscores the college's ongoing growth and dedication to providing accessible, high-quality technical education. For over five decades, Orion Technical College has been a dynamic force in career training, continuously shaping its curriculum and environment to meet the demands of a rapidly changing professional landscape.
