About Orion Technical College
Empowering careers through hands-on technical education since 1969.

With a guiding motto "To educate for a rewarding career," the college is renowned for its immersive, practical programs, particularly in Electronics Engineering Technology and Medical Assisting, designed to equip students with immediate career-ready skills.
Dating back to its founding in 1969 by Charles and Maryanne Hamilton as the Academy of Radio and Television (A.R.T.) in Bettendorf, Iowa, the institution has a rich history of adaptation and growth. Initially focused on preparing students for FCC exams and broadcasting careers, it quickly expanded. By 1978, the addition of an Electronics program and recognition as a Technical College marked a significant evolution, leading to its renaming as A.R.T. Technical College. The journey continued with a name change to Hamilton Technical College in 1980, further program expansions including Computer-Aided Drafting, and a major relocation to its current Davenport campus in 1991. The college cemented its identity as Orion Technical College in 2020, also establishing a sister campus, the Orion Institute, in Toledo, Ohio, and making a strategic move to a new, larger building in Davenport in 2021.
