Otero College

Otero College stands as a dedicated public community college in Colorado, firmly committed to student success. The college's rich history traces back to 1941 when it was established as La Junta Junior College, initially operated by the local school district. Demonstrating a strong desire for local autonomy and support, the community voted in 1949 for the college to become an independent unit supported by the county, leading to its renaming as Otero County Junior College. After another renaming to Otero Junior College in 1956, a pivotal moment arrived in 1968 when the institution officially joined Colorado's state two-year college system, solidifying its role in statewide education.
