Ouachita Baptist University

Ouachita Baptist University stands as a testament to enduring educational commitment, continually serving students since its founding as Ouachita Baptist College on September 6, 1886. From its humble beginnings, this institution has grown, adapting and thriving over more than a century, establishing itself as a pillar of higher education in Arkansas.

The university’s journey began on the campus of Ouachita Baptist High School before relocating to its current picturesque setting, formerly home to the Arkansas School for the Blind. This foundational period saw J. W. Conger elected as its first president in 1886, setting the course for a legacy of leadership. A pivotal moment in its evolution occurred in 1965 when the college officially transitioned to Ouachita Baptist University, reflecting its expanded academic scope and continued commitment to a comprehensive university experience.

Throughout its long history, Ouachita has been guided by a succession of dedicated presidents, with Dr. Ben Sells elected as the sixteenth president in 2016. While specific academic strengths are not detailed, Ouachita’s consistent operation since its inception underscores a resilient academic environment, focused on fostering student growth within a faith-based framework, making it an appealing choice for students seeking a meaningful and rooted college experience.
