Our Lady of the Lake University

Nestled in vibrant San Antonio, Texas, Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) offers a distinguished educational journey rooted in over a century of Catholic tradition. Founded in 1895 by the Sisters of Divine Providence, OLLU, affectionately known as 'the Lake,' stands as a beacon of academic excellence and community engagement. It proudly holds the distinction as the first San Antonio institution of higher education to receive regional accreditation, a testament to its enduring commitment to quality education.

OLLU provides a rich array of academic opportunities, from robust bachelor's and master's programs to two doctoral degree options, catering to a diverse student body of over 2,000. Its pioneering spirit is evident in the Worden School of Social Service, the oldest social work school in Texas, which exemplifies OLLU's dedication to service and justice. The university has also been a trailblazer in accessibility, introducing the innovative 'Weekend College' concept in San Antonio in 1978, extending educational access to those with limited schedules.

Throughout its history, OLLU has continuously evolved to meet the needs of its students and community. While initially a women's college, graduate studies became coeducational in 1942, with all programs opening to men and women by 1969. The institution officially became Our Lady of the Lake University of San Antonio in 1975, reflecting its expanded scope. Even in the face of challenges, such as a significant fire in its main building in 2008, the OLLU community rallied, demonstrating remarkable resilience and commitment to its future, completing reconstruction and reopening the building by 2011.

Beyond the classroom, students at OLLU thrive as the Saints, competing in the NAIA's Red River Athletic Conference. The university’s reach extends beyond its beautiful San Antonio campus, with satellite locations in Houston and the Rio Grande Valley, embodying its mission to provide accessible education across Texas. Under the leadership of President Abel A.
