Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) stands as a beacon for healthcare education in the region, dedicated to addressing the critical need for medical and health professionals. Founded as an osteopathic medical school, PNWU has rapidly evolved into a comprehensive health sciences university, committed to fostering a diverse cohort of compassionate and skilled practitioners. Its mission is deeply rooted in serving the healthcare needs of the Pacific Northwest and beyond, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

Established in 2005, PNWU quickly garnered provisional accreditation by 2007, marking a significant step in expanding healthcare training opportunities in Washington State. The university opened its doors to its first students in 2008 with the inauguration of Butler-Haney Hall, a state-of-the-art facility. This foundational period culminated in 2012 with the graduation of its inaugural class of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) students, a testament to its successful pioneering efforts in medical education.

PNWU's academic prowess lies in its commitment to expanding health education across multiple disciplines. Beyond its core DO program, the university has seen remarkable growth, launching a Master of Arts in Medical Sciences (MAMS) program in 2021. This rapid expansion continued with the opening of the School of Physical Therapy in 2022, the School of Occupational Therapy in 2023, and the School of Dental Medicine accepting its first class in 2024. This broad spectrum of programs ensures a robust pipeline of healthcare professionals, adept at collaborative practice.

With a student body of 650, the student experience at PNWU is characterized by its strong regional focus and practical training. While initially facing challenges in securing clinical rotation sites, PNWU has successfully cultivated extensive partnerships, providing invaluable hands-on learning opportunities across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, and Montana. This broad reach ensures that students gain diverse clinical exposure, preparing them to serve the unique health needs of various communities throughout the Pacific Northwest.
