Palo Alto College

Palo Alto College stands as a cornerstone of public community education, dedicated to serving South Texas since its official charter on March 19, 1983. As a public community college, it provides accessible and foundational educational opportunities that empower students to pursue higher education or enter the workforce directly. Its establishment marked a significant milestone, opening doors for countless individuals in the region to achieve their academic and professional aspirations.

The college's journey began humbly with its approval by the ACCD Board of Trustees on February 21, 1983. Initially serving 231 students in various high schools and military installations, with administrative offices rooted in Billy Mitchell Village, Palo Alto College quickly grew to meet the burgeoning demand for quality education. This early flexibility underscored its commitment to reach students wherever they were, laying the groundwork for its community-centric approach.

Today, Palo Alto College has evolved into a comprehensive institution set on nearly 126 acres of land. By the 2007–2008 academic year, enrollment had surged to 7,662 students, supported by a dedicated team of over 100 staff members and full-time faculty. The campus, which began with an original complex of 11 buildings and 26 classrooms, continues to foster a supportive learning environment, equipping students with essential skills and knowledge for a brighter future.
