About Paradise Valley Community College
Paradise Valley Community College: Growing with Phoenix to empower 14,000+ students since 1985.
Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) stands as a vibrant hub of learning, rooted deeply in the heart of Phoenix's dynamic growth. Established in 1985, PVCC quickly blossomed from its temporary beginnings into a robust public community college, now proudly serving over 14,000 students. Its evolution mirrors the expansion of the surrounding area, continuously adapting to meet the educational and professional needs of the community.
The college's journey began as the Northeast Valley Education Center, rapidly gaining its permanent name and inaugurating its campus in 1987. A testament to its rapid development and commitment to excellence, PVCC achieved independent accreditation by 1990, just five years after its founding. This early milestone paved the way for a rich history of expansion, marked by the addition of specialized buildings and the introduction of diverse academic programs.
PVCC offers a compelling array of academic strengths designed to prepare students for promising careers and further education. From foundational Chemistry courses introduced in 1989 to dedicated facilities for Nursing, Fire Science, and EMT programs in the modular L-Building, the college continually invests in cutting-edge learning environments. Its state-of-the-art Life Sciences building, opened in 2009, boasts seven classrooms, six biology labs, and two anatomy/physiology labs, including a specialized cadaver lab, providing unparalleled hands-on experience.
The student experience at PVCC is enriched by comprehensive resources and a thriving campus culture. The Jo and Warren Buxton Library, part of the Learning Resource Center, offers extensive support with computer labs and a tutoring center. The PVCC Center for the Performing Arts, opened in 2005, hosts drama and music performances, while numerous art collections, including over 600 Western-themed pieces, add to the campus's aesthetic appeal. With a recently renovated Kranitz Student Center and the addition of the Black Mountain satellite campus, PVCC ensures a welcoming and supportive environment for every student.
