About Paradise Valley Community College
Paradise Valley Community College: Growing with Phoenix, shaping futures since 1985.
Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) stands as a vibrant and expanding hub of learning in the heart of the Maricopa County Community College District. Since its humble beginnings in 1985 as the Northeast Valley Education Center, PVCC has mirrored the dynamic growth of the Phoenix area, evolving into a robust public community college serving approximately 14,000 students. It offers a diverse and comprehensive academic experience designed to prepare students for successful careers and continued education.
PVCC's history is a testament to its commitment to growth and community integration. Starting as an extension of Scottsdale Community College, it quickly gained independent accreditation in 1990, establishing its distinct identity. The campus itself has been a continuous work in progress, with significant expansions like the M-Building, the state-of-the-art Center for the Performing Arts, and specialized facilities for high-demand fields. The acquisition and renovation of the George L. Campbell Branch Library into the Q-Building for Mathematics, and the opening of the Black Mountain satellite campus, underscore PVCC's dedication to accessibility and innovation.
Academically, PVCC boasts strong programs across various disciplines. From its early offerings in Chemistry to modern, advanced facilities for Nursing, Fire Science, and EMT in the L-Building, the college continually adapts to industry needs. The life sciences building, opened in 2009, features seven classrooms, six biology labs, and two anatomy/physiology labs, including a specialized cadaver lab, providing unparalleled hands-on learning. The college's Learning Resource Center, housing the Jo and Warren Buxton Library, computer labs, and a tutoring center, provides essential support for student success.
The student experience at PVCC is enriched by modern facilities like the renovated Kranitz Student Center, serving as a hub for campus life. Impressive art collections, such as the over 600 Western-themed pieces donated by faculty-emeritus Dr. Warren Buxton, also enhance the cultural environment. With President Jana Schwartz at the helm, PVCC continues to foster an engaging and supportive environment, empowering students to achieve their educational and career aspirations. It's a place where growth, community, and opportunity converge, offering a truly transformative educational journey.
