Pearl River Community College

Nestled in the heart of Mississippi, Pearl River Community College (PRCC) stands as a true pioneer in higher education. Born from the Mississippi Agricultural High School Law of 1908, PRCC, then Pearl River County Agricultural High School, began its journey in 1909, quickly adapting and innovating to serve its community. It achieved a historic milestone by becoming Mississippi's first two-year public institution in 1921-22, offering freshman college courses, and further expanding to include sophomore classes just a few years later. This commitment to accessible, quality education laid the foundation for the community college system across the state.

PRCC's rich history is not just one of academic firsts, but also of profound resilience. Originally established on a modest 20-acre plot in Poplarville, the college has grown into a multi-campus institution, extending its reach to the Forrest County Center and Lowery Woodall Advanced Technology Center in Hattiesburg, and the Hancock Center in Waveland. Each location carries forward the institution's founding spirit of educational excellence and community engagement, providing diverse learning opportunities.

The college’s unwavering spirit was powerfully demonstrated in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which inflicted an estimated $40–50 million in damage across its campuses. Instead of being deterred, PRCC embarked on an impressive rebuilding effort, replacing cherished but damaged structures like M. R. White Coliseum and Moody Hall Auditorium with modern facilities, including a new state-of-the-art Coliseum and the Ethel Holden Brownstone Center for the Arts. This remarkable recovery showcases PRCC's enduring dedication to its students and its mission, ensuring that future generations continue to benefit from its strong academic foundation and supportive learning environment.
