Pellissippi State Community College offers a vibrant and comprehensive educational experience designed to prepare students for both immediate career success and seamless transfer to four-year universities. What began in 1974 as the State Technical Institute at Knoxville (STIK) with a focused vision for post-secondary vocational training, quickly evolved to provide quality associate degree programs. Rooted in a rich history of expansion and adaptation, Pellissippi State's journey saw it grow significantly since its founding. Initially offering three associate degree programs to its first 45 students, it gained crucial accreditation in 1977 and proudly joined the State University and Community College System of Tennessee in 1983. This foundational growth culminated in a strategic move to its expansive 445-acre campus in west Knox County in 1986, providing ample space for its developing mission and growing student body.

The college truly came into its own in 1988 when its mission broadened dramatically. Renamed Pellissippi State Technical Community College, it fully embraced its role as a comprehensive technical community college, absorbing space previously shared with Roane State and introducing numerous university-parallel associate degree programs.
