About Peninsula College

Peninsula College: Community-born, culturally rich, and growing strong since 1961.

Peninsula College stands as a vibrant testament to community vision, born from the desire of local citizens in 1961 to bring accessible higher education closer to home. Initially holding classes in a small building on the Port Angeles High School campus, the college rapidly grew, reflecting the strong local demand for quality educational opportunities without the need for extensive travel.

The swift increase in student enrollment necessitated a dedicated space, leading to the commencement of construction for a permanent campus in 1964. By 1965, Peninsula College proudly opened its doors on its present 75-acre site in Southeast Port Angeles, establishing a vital educational hub for the entire service district and offering a broad range of programs designed to empower students for their futures.

Today, the expansive campus boasts 15 buildings and serves as a unique cultural landmark, housing the first Longhouse ever built on a community college campus in the United States. This distinctive feature underscores Peninsula College's deep commitment to cultural inclusivity and celebrating diverse heritages, providing a rich and welcoming environment for all students as they pursue their academic and career aspirations.
