Pfeiffer University, a private institution with roots stretching back to 1885, boasts a remarkable journey of educational evolution. Significant financial gifts from the Pfeiffer family in New York City propelled its growth, leading to its renaming as "Pfeiffer Junior College" in 1935. This pivotal support laid the groundwork for its expansion into a four-year "Pfeiffer College" by 1960, ultimately achieving full university status in 1996.

Pfeiffer's campus itself holds historical significance, with the Pfeiffer Junior College Historic District recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. This district preserves 14 contributing buildings and a structure, showcasing Georgian Revival-style brick academic architecture from 1923 to 1948.
