Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) stands as a beacon of health education, distinguished by its century-long legacy in osteopathic medicine and its commitment to developing a diverse array of healthcare professionals. With a rich history dating back to 1899, PCOM has evolved into a comprehensive institution offering robust programs across its main Philadelphia campus and two branch campuses in Georgia.

Founded as the Philadelphia College and Infirmary of Osteopathy, PCOM was notably the third osteopathic medical school established in the United States. Through strategic expansions, name changes, and campus relocations, including settling into its current City Avenue home in 1973, PCOM has consistently adapted to the evolving needs of healthcare. The institution proudly celebrated its 125th anniversary in January 2024, a testament to its enduring impact on medical education and patient care.

Academic strengths at PCOM are extensive, spanning beyond its foundational Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. The college has strategically broadened its offerings to include graduate programs in biomedical science, a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program, Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and physician assistant studies. This diverse portfolio ensures students are prepared for varied and impactful roles within the healthcare landscape. PCOM's expansion into Georgia through its branch campuses further underscores its dedication to extending access to quality health education.

Prospective students and families will find PCOM to be an institution steeped in tradition yet forward-thinking in its approach to health education. Its commitment to the "Mens et Manus" (Mind and Hand) motto reflects a holistic philosophy that trains fully qualified physicians and healthcare practitioners — whether DO or MD — to be skilled, compassionate, and ready to meet the complex challenges of modern medicine.
