Phoenix Seminary

Phoenix Seminary, a private institution founded in 1988, has long been a dedicated provider of theological education, serving the evangelical community with a focus on preparing leaders for ministry and scholarship. Initially established as a branch campus of Western Seminary, it quickly found its own identity, achieving independence in 1994 and building its unique academic profile.

Over the decades, Phoenix Seminary has navigated the evolving landscape of theological education. In a significant strategic move, particularly after experiencing a decline in attendance to approximately 300 students since 2020, the seminary's board embarked on a visionary plan to ensure its enduring impact and expand its reach.

This foresight culminated in an historic merger with Biola University's highly esteemed Talbot School of Theology. This transformative collaboration, publicly announced in June 2026, will see Phoenix Seminary renamed to "Talbot Seminary Phoenix." Classes under this new banner are anticipated to begin in August of the same year, marking a new chapter for the institution.

The merger is set to create an academic titan in the theological world, with the combined institution projected to enroll over 1,800 graduate students. This union will elevate Talbot Seminary Phoenix to the position of the second-largest nondenominational evangelical seminary globally, trailing only Dallas Theological Seminary. Prospective students will benefit from the expanded resources, comprehensive academic offerings, and strengthened reputation of a truly leading institution in Christian higher education.
