Piedmont Community College (PCC) stands as a cornerstone of higher education and workforce development in its region, a public community college deeply rooted in serving the needs of local communities. Originally founded on July 1, 1970, as Person County Technical Institute, PCC was the result of a visionary effort by progressive-minded citizens in Person County. Their goal was to establish a local institution that could offer higher education and essential job training, keeping talent and opportunity within the community. The college quickly evolved, changing its name to Piedmont Technical Institute in 1971 and later to Piedmont Community College in 1987-88, reflecting its expanding mission and comprehensive offerings.

PCC's commitment to growth and community outreach is evident in its history of expansion. In 1985, it broadened its service area to include Caswell County, culminating in the opening of a dedicated campus there in 1988. This expansion, coupled with significant enrollment increases—including a 40% rise in curriculum enrollment over four years leading up to 2000, and a remarkable 13% growth in 2024, its highest in a decade—showcases PCC's enduring relevance and appeal. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2020, Piedmont Community College continues to be a vibrant and growing institution, fostering educational attainment and economic vitality under the leadership of President Kevin E. Lee.
