Piedmont Community College

Piedmont Community College (PCC) stands as a testament to local vision and educational commitment, established on July 1, 1970, as Person County Technical Institute. Born from the desire of progressive citizens to create a local center for higher education and job training, PCC quickly became an integral part of the community. From its modest beginnings with 266 full-time students in September 1970, the institution has continually evolved to meet the needs of its growing service area.

Throughout its history, PCC has demonstrated a strong commitment to expansion and accessibility. The college's name evolved from Piedmont Technical Institute in 1971 to Piedmont Community College in 1987-88, reflecting its broader mission and comprehensive offerings. A pivotal moment was its expansion into Caswell County in 1985, which led to the opening of a dedicated campus there in 1988, extending its vital educational services to an even wider student population.

PCC has consistently experienced periods of robust growth, showcasing its increasing relevance and impact. By the year 2000, curriculum enrollment had surged by 40% over just four years, indicating a strong community trust and demand for its programs. More recently, in 2024, PCC achieved its highest enrollment growth in a decade, with a remarkable 13% increase. As it celebrated 50 years of education in 2020, Piedmont Community College continues its legacy as a vibrant and essential institution, dedicated to empowering students and strengthening the local workforce under the leadership of President Kevin E. Lee.
