Pittsburg State University

Founded in 1903 as the Auxiliary Manual Training Normal School, it began as an ambitious branch of Emporia's State Normal School, quickly establishing its own identity and a commitment to practical education.

The early decades saw significant transformation. By 1913, it had matured into a full-fledged four-year institution, shedding its 'Auxiliary' designation. Its mission further broadened beyond just teacher training, leading to a series of name changes that reflected its evolving scope: Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg in 1923, and later Kansas State College of Pittsburg in 1959. Each name change marked a new chapter, underscoring its dedication to a wider array of academic pursuits.

This continuous growth culminated on April 21, 1977, when it officially became Pittsburg State University (PSU).
