The university's journey began as Post College, focusing on essential business skills like typing and bookkeeping. It grew and transformed through various names and affiliations, eventually settling into its current Waterbury, Connecticut campus in 1965. A significant turning point came in 1976 when it became a four-year institution, expanding opportunities for students, including Vietnam veterans, and later embracing baccalaureate degrees and varsity sports.

Post University has a strong academic foundation, exemplified by the Malcolm Baldrige School of Business, named after the former U.S. Secretary of Commerce, which notably launched Connecticut's first fully online MBA in 2007. The institution also significantly bolstered its health sciences offerings through the acquisition of American Sentinel University in 2021, forming the American Sentinel College of Nursing and Health Sciences. This expansion, alongside a commitment to liberal arts and graduate studies, ensures a diverse and robust academic experience designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge, further enhanced by global academic resources through its recent acquisition by Universidad Andrés Bello.
