Prairie State College

Prairie State College (PSC), initially founded in 1957 as Bloom Township Junior College, has evolved from holding its first classes in a church basement in 1958 into a comprehensive educational hub. Reorganized and renamed in 1967, PSC has a rich history of adapting and expanding to meet the needs of its growing district, transforming its campus from a collection of interim buildings to state-of-the-art permanent facilities.

PSC is known for its commitment to both transfer liberal arts courses and robust occupational-technical programs. Over the years, it has continuously innovated its academic offerings and campus infrastructure. Key academic strengths include specialized programs housed in modern facilities like the Health/Tech Center, which supports Dental Hygiene, Surgical Technology, and Networking, and the evolving Fire Science Program at its Matteson Area Center.

The student experience at Prairie State College is enhanced by its diverse and modern facilities. Students benefit from resources such as the Christopher Art Gallery, a new Library, and the unique Fitness Complex—a collaboration with local community partners. The college also stands out for its pioneering Adult Training and Outreach Center, one of the few buildings in the country exclusively dedicated to adult education, showcasing its deep commitment to lifelong learning and community empowerment.
