Initially founded as the German Hospital Training School, Research College of Nursing has navigated various strategic partnerships throughout its history, notably a long-standing collaboration with Rockhurst University beginning in 1979. In a significant move in 2018, the college announced its decision to regain full independence, marking a new chapter of autonomous growth and focused development. This independence underscores its clear mission to provide specialized nursing education tailored to the evolving demands of the healthcare landscape.

Looking ahead, Research College of Nursing is embarking on an exciting period of expansion and modernization. In 2023, ambitious plans were unveiled for a brand-new, state-of-the-art 78,000-square-foot facility, a substantial $34.5 million investment, to be constructed right next to the Research Medical Center. This new building is specifically designed to significantly increase enrollment capacity, offering prospective students and their families access to modern learning environments, cutting-edge resources, and unparalleled opportunities for practical experience within a leading medical facility. While the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program was phased out, the college's strategic focus is firmly on growing its core nursing programs and fostering an immersive, high-quality educational experience.
