Riverside College of Health Careers

Riverside College of Health Sciences stands as a beacon of health education, with a legacy spanning over a century. Dedicated to cultivating skilled professionals, this private, nonprofit institution has proudly graduated 8,000 students between its founding and June 2024. Today, it continues to prepare the next generation of healthcare leaders, offering a focused and supportive environment for its 303 students.

The college's rich history began in 1916 as the Elizabeth Buxton Hospital School of Nursing. Its journey is intertwined with the evolution of local healthcare institutions, including its association with the privately-owned Elizabeth Buxton Hospital, which later became Mary Immaculate Hospital in 1952. The nursing school maintained its critical relationship with the hospital throughout these changes, eventually transforming into Riverside College of Health Careers when its affiliated hospital was renamed Riverside Regional Medical Center, now Riverside Health.

Academic excellence and student success are at the core of Riverside College of Health Sciences. The institution emphasizes a practical, hands-on approach to learning in the health professions. Further bolstering its academic offerings, the college established a significant partnership with Old Dominion University School of Nursing in 2015, enhancing opportunities and resources for its students. Renamed Riverside College of Health Sciences on June 20, 2024, the college remains committed to its mission of providing specialized education that directly addresses the needs of the healthcare industry.
