Rocky Mountain College

Rocky Mountain College stands today as a private college with a rich and distinctive history, proudly serving 991 students under the leadership of President Robert Wilmouth. Located in Billings, Montana, on the historically significant Poly Drive, RMC offers a focused educational environment that embodies resilience and a deep commitment to learning.

The college's origins trace back to 1878 with the founding of the Montana Collegiate Institute. This institution, later known as the College of Montana, played a pivotal role in the early educational landscape of the state. Through a series of foundational events, including the 1908 establishment of the Billings Polytechnic Institute (BPI) and the incorporation of various assets into Intermountain Union College (IUC) in 1923, RMC's roots grew intertwined with Montana's academic development. A testament to its enduring spirit, IUC relocated to the Billings Polytechnic campus in 1935 following devastating earthquakes in Helena.

The defining moment arrived in 1947 when Intermountain Union College merged with Billings Polytechnic Institute, and the students themselves chose the name Rocky Mountain College. This unique formation story highlights a legacy of adaptation and continuity in providing post-secondary education.
