About Rogers State University

From military academy to modern university: RSU blends heritage with cutting-edge education.

Welcome to Rogers State University, a vibrant public four-year institution rooted in a century of academic and military tradition. With approximately 3,200 students across its main Claremore campus and growing locations in Bartlesville and Pryor, RSU champions a motto of "Tradition Innovation Excellence." It's a place where history meets the future, offering a unique educational journey tailored for prospective students and their families.

RSU's story is one of remarkable transformation. Founded in 1909 as the Eastern University Preparatory School, it later evolved into the distinguished Oklahoma Military Academy (OMA) in 1919. For decades, OMA played a crucial role in national defense, educating and training over 2,500 cadets who went on to serve in the U.S. armed forces, with many making the ultimate sacrifice. This profound legacy of service and discipline continues to influence the university's character, even as it transitioned to Claremore Junior College in 1971 and then Rogers State College in 1982.

Today, Rogers State University stands as a testament to growth and adaptation. Following a merger and subsequent separation in the late 1990s, RSU proudly became a public four-year, residential university in 2000, offering bachelor's degrees and fostering a dynamic student experience. Beyond Claremore, RSU has expanded its reach, establishing a significant presence in downtown Bartlesville with a historic nine-story campus building acquired in 2005, and opening a state-of-the-art Pryor campus in 2014, representing the largest gift in the university's history. Students also benefit from resources like the Stratton Taylor Library, designated a Federal depository library.
