Saint Elizabeth University

Founded in 1899 by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, Saint Elizabeth University stands as a testament to educational pioneering, being among the first Catholic colleges in the United States to award degrees to women. In recent years, Saint Elizabeth University has embraced an exciting evolution. The institution began its transition to a co-educational environment with the freshman intake of 2016, with the final all-female class graduating in 2019. This significant change was followed by the official accord of university status by the New Jersey Department of Education on July 1, 2020, marking a new chapter in its distinguished history as it proudly became the last women-only college in the state to transition.

Named for St. Elizabeth, cousin of Mary, and rooted in the vision of the Sisters of Charity founded by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (the United States' first native-born saint), the university remains dedicated to shaping future leaders.
